Watercolor, collage, and markers

Birds are also a really fun subject of these paintings. This is my new favorite thing to do:  wire drawings.  They are done with permanent markers, but they look like they are wire sculptures!  That’s why I invented the name, “wire drawings”.  We will learn the art of drawing “wire drawings” and then add collage, and watercolor to them. Subjects are student’s choice.

Three Day watercolor, collage, and marker workshop

Barb Neihart

This is my new favorite thing to do:  wire drawings.  They are done with permanent markers, but they look like they are wire sculptures!  That’s why I invented the name, “wire drawings”.  We will have one day of wire drawings, and watercolor paintings and the other days will involve learning how to paint groups of people in an illusionary manner.  You may or may not choose to add collage.  You know me, I will more than likely be adding collage, but you have the option either way. (The painting, “Deep in Thought”, is an example of a “wire drawing” painting.)

*at the MN Fall Art Show
Location: Cormorant, Minnesota
Dates: September 26th, 2015
Hours: 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Cost: $17.00

The Cormorant Area Art Club invites you to Cormorant for the Fall Meeting of Artists of Minnesota on Saturday, September 26.

It will be held at the Cormorant Village Community Center, 10929 County Highway 5, Cormorant, MN.  (north of Pelican Rapids, MN) Deadline for signing up for this event is Sept. 12th.

With lunch catered by Ella Marie's, a favorite restaurant in the Cormorant area, and Karen Knutson as Guest Artist, it promises to be a fun and wonderful event! This includes lunch and a demonstration by Karen Knutson, who will be demonstrating how to paint Funky Ladies. This is one of her most popular workshops! For this demonstration, there will actually be audience participation, so bring your sketch book, a pencil, eraser, and perhaps a permanent marker. We will all do a Funky Lady drawing together! Bring your imagination and your sense of humor. Fear and hesitation are not welcome! Karen says, “I’ve found that these paintings have improved my imagination and problem solving skills so that all of my paintings benefit.  Be prepared for lots of giggles!

If you join the Artists of MN, you may bring a painting/artwork for the critique (and an easel to display it on). Art that you bring does not need to be framed and/or completed. This critique session will take place in the afternoon.  There will be a "Members' Choice Award." You must be a member to participate in the critique. (Note: artworks critiqued at the Fall Meeting will not be accepted in the next Spring Show.)

Watercolor and collage

The first day, we will learn an easy way to draw a funky lady. No portrait painting here! These funky lady paintings are about 7” x 11”. They are so much fun! This workshop will expand your imagination, and these paintings often get turned into great cards! The second day, we will paint Little Abbeys, my nickname for little abstracts. These are watercolor and collage, ending with gold marker embellishments.

* Checks should be made out to Karen Knutson, and sent to 8621 Coachman's Lane, Eden Prairie, MN to reserve your spot in this workshop.

Watercolor, charcoal, collage

Contour drawings make these paintings easy and a great adventure! We’ll learn how to paint abstract backgrounds and incorporate people into the painting. There will be fun new ways to establish texture, using collage papers, and different surface treatments for special effects. Tricks!!!! We’ll also be working with a charcoal pour as a preparation for our bird paintings. This is such a fun process, and very easy! These paintings are meant to be fun loving and free. No portrait painting here! Basically, we’ll be doing the outline shape of a person, so no detail will be needed. Karen Knutson is a very popular watercolor instructor, who believes that painting should be fun, and gives lots of individual help. She is known for her enthusiastic demonstrations and lessons in good design.

*Definitely to your advantage to become a member!
