| Painting any subject on the first day, students will learn how to take that same subject and make it abstract or at least, semi-abstract. Think of a still life for instance. Traditionally, you would have lighting, perfect placement of objects, etc. We’ll learn several ways to turn that setting into abstract and think of every subject in terms of simple shapes, and good design. How fun is that??? We’ll learn how to push colors to exciting levels, and how to have glowing colors. By the end of the week, we’ll be working completely abstract, working in mixed media and collage. | This class will spell out simple tricks to learn good design in an easy way. Do you think your paintings are lacking something to make them stand out from others? Simplification and balance tips make this class a sure winner! The first two days, we'll do fun exercises that will make you sharpen your knowledge of good composition and design. But don't let that scare you away. These are fun studies that are winning paintings, all by themselves. On the last 2 days, you will get to paint your favorite subjects, in your style of painting, but with great design. Your ordinary paintings will become extraordinary paintings. Karen will also have fun techniques to add to the textures in your paintings. (Watercolor is the main media in this workshop. Collage will be added to enhance texture, but is not required if students wish to paint only in watercolor.) Subjects will be student's choice. They may choose to work realistic, semi-abstract, or abstract. |

Students will learn how to paint an abstract background that will make the paintings semi-abstract and eye-catching! Your imagination and color knowledge will expand greatly. Due to Karen's heavy teaching schedule in other states, this is a rare opportunity to take a workshop from Karen in Minneapolis, so sign up now! |
